Report :
On Saturday, September 10th, the animal rights organisation "Bite Back - Think before you eat. Save Lives, Stop Cruelty" set up an information stand for the first time in Ostend city center, and it was very successful. Activists also had a leafleting event as part of our awareness campaign. We had our large photo boards, lots of information, a video screen with non-stop images of cattle industry and we offered vegan snacks to the public.

Two presentations/debates were organized on the same day. The first took place on Place Marulaz, during a restaurant open house (a collectively-organized vegan restaurant open to everyone and set in the public plaza), but was poorly organized. It attempted to continue in a nearby and independently-managed venue. Several people who were interested in knowing more attended the presentation. The second took place in the evening in the same place. It addressed the political lines between anarchism and anti-speciesism and therefore tackled the question of the demand for the abolishment of meat. Polemical debate ensued. Lots of interested people. Everyone seemed to agree to disagree in the end.

Each evening for two days, we held a meal in the village communal room, preceded by a presentation about "the animal question" and its politicization, speciesism, veggie-phobia, and the demand for the abolition of meat. In total, over fifteen people attended, and were quite interested. The majority of attendees were either vegetarian or people who only rarely eat meat, apart from one or two people who were defending the consumption of meat. The village livestock farmers did not come. The discussion took place during the meal and continued until late.

Animal Dignity Animal Dignity organized a street performance event at 3pm on Saturday, September 24th. The show revolved around a false crime scene: a forensic scientist inspected the fake corpse of a calf. The public's attention was called upon and passers-by received leaflets in order to identify the author of the murder: it is a very difficult task. Indeed the slaughterhouse employees, the butcher, and the simple consumer have all participated directly or not in the slaughter of the victim. In the face of this complex problem, there is only one solution: the justice system must prohibit the consumption and sale of meat! It was a successful event!

On the 24th of September, in the centre of Orléans, on the Place du Martroi, information stands were set up for the abolition of meat: - pamphlets were distributed and informative and diverse brochures were made available; there was also a petition to sign and a plate of meat substitutes (in order to prove again, if it was necessary, that another food is possible) and activists held signs and moving posters that brought about reflections …. a much more favourable welcome than was expected from the passers-by and a few informal discussions took place with those resistant to change (one a breeder of pigs from Brittany). A very positive outcome for an action like this held with confidence by a team of six convincing activists. Another event will take place soon because Orléans still has a number of potential vegans and vegetarians.

On Friday September the 30th, as part of the World Week for the Abolition of Meat, Droit des Animaux (Animal Rights) and nea had information booths and organised an human meat package demonstration at the Place de la République in Rennes. At 1:30pm we put in place our classic human meat package demonstration. The exchanges were diverse and varied: “And what about the children? Have you thought of the impact that is going to be provoked by a sight such as this production?” (Translation: “Well, they are going to become vegan or vegetarian!”). “Who do you think you are asking for the abolition of meat? Animals are here to be eaten, period. And as Freud said, they are not of reflective thought. We are really superior and intelligent!” We will spare you the remarks shouted but said from a distance regarding the benefits of steak. But there were also positive and constructive exchanges. Several people who were concerned by the human meat package demonstration afterwards stopped at the information booths where the activists responded to their questions.

Information stand and leafleting. Report:
Go Vegan with Bob Linden (www.GoVeganRadio.com), served as emcee for the annual World Veg Festival (www.sfvs.org/wvd/) in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. On October 2, I delivered a talk at the festival entitled "Vegan Animal Liberation Activism and the Campaign to Abolish Meat vs. Furniture For Chickens in 18 years", encouraging vegans to promote both veganism and abolition vs. involvement in misleading campaigns that accomplish nothing other than giving the public rationalizations to continue consumption of animals and animal products, such as the latest offering from the Humane Society of the United States promising perches for imprisoned hens in two decades. The talk will be available within a few weeks, with information about it to be posted at www.GoVeganRadio.com. I have also received a favorable response from San Francisco City Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi to consider introduction of legislation to ban meat in San Francisco, based on a compelling argument for it. Mirkarimi was successful in initiating a plastic bag ban in San Francisco. My research shows that a vegan citizenry in the San Francisco Bay Area, free of meat and dairy related disease, would save $20 billion in current Bay Area medical costs, and would save the city $2.2 billion. A vegan California would save $101.7 billion annually. A vegan Bay Area would also save 22.3 billion gallons of water, with the city of San Francisco saving 2.5 billion gallons of water annually. I believe that the sale of meat, dairy, fish, and eggs should be banned because they involve torture and murder of non-human animals, death, disease, poverty, and hunger for homo sapiens, and the environmental unsustainability of climate change, deforestation, habitat destruction, soil erosion, desertification, resource depletion, and water pollution.

Various towns : Peta will do meat tray demos on 29th January, post a blog and do an Op Ed, etc. (Ingrid Newkirk, PETA, US)
- Louisville, Kentucky :
Lying nearly naked on large trays and covered with clear plastic in front of signs reading, "Meat Is Murder," PETA members will mimic typical meat packages on Wednesday in front of the JBS Swift slaughterhouse in Louisville in support of World Week for the Abolition of Meat. Other PETA members will distribute leaflets to passersby. The activists aim to demonstrate that all animals—including humans—are made of flesh, blood, and bone; that animals have the same senses and range of emotions as humans do; and that when you eat meat, you are eating a corpse. The packages will feature oversized price stickers that warn, "Billions of Animals Are Abused and Violently Killed Because You Eat Meat. Get Help! Visit GoVeg.com."
When: Wednesday, January 26, 12 noon

In Lausanne, an information stall was held all day on the Place Saint-François, with information about the reality of farms and slaughterhouses. The public was open to the idea of the political demand for the abolition of the meat. From 15h to 16h, there was a demonstration attended by over 20 people from different regions of Switzerland. Leaflets about this world day and the movement have been distributed throughout the hour. Metz (France)
Saturday January 31, Metz, the associations L214 and VegLorraine held an information stand for this first World Day of the Abolition of Meat. The stand consisted of three parts: the abolition part with visual documentation, the vegetarian part to show alternatives and the more nutritional part, with VegLorraine's vegan pyramid and different vegan products. Passers have been very open to this action and the theme of the day. Many have stopped to discuss. Even when opinions differed, the tone was calm and open to debate. Aside from a cry of the salad that changes from that of carrots, a few "meat is too tasty", there wasn't much provocation. The leaflets were distributed relatively easily, as well as the proposed documentation. Therefore a positive balance for the first day for the abolition of meat.

Paris (France)
On the steps of the Opera-Bastille, activists with panels of animals or signs stating the number of animals killed in the world for food, have made visible their demand for the abolition of meat. There were a big banner "Abolition of meat", information stalls made by Droits des Animaux, Supreme Master TV, CLEDA, L214 and a mass distribution of leaflets to inform the public. Many passers were able to discover the message carried by the forty activists present despite the cold, wind and other events scheduled in the afternoon. We hope that this day will be the trigger engine of a movement that will only grow as time passes.

Toulouse (France)
Under a threatening sky, a dozen animal rights activists and supporters of the group AnimalAmnistie participated in an action to promote "the abolition of meat" to the general public. There were information stalls to inform the passers and from 15h to 16h, 9 activists with masks of animals held panels showing the terrible conditions of the animals in our society. Also, a militant disguised himself as a pig in a locked cage to symbolize the appalling conditions in which sentient beings suffer to be used as food. Many people were surprised when they saw this "astonishing" scene. A lot of people came next to the information stalls to inform themselves on vegan nutrition. A very successful action that was welcomed favorably by the public!

Rennes (France)
A naked man was without moving in a tray on which it was written « meat » for 1 hour and 30 minutes to make think the public about the fact that all animals are made of flesh and that they wouln't like to be in the place of the exploited animals that are murdered for food. Next to him was a resolution for the abolition of meat written on a wooden panel. There were also large panels with pictures showing animal exploitation. Activists distributed a lot of flyers, and two vegans of Rennes spontaneously joined them. They came after hearing on the radio the speech of Nathalie Fontrel who was talking about the action. Many people took time to think and discuss with the activists, some vegetarians stopped to join the discussions. A true public forum!
Here you can see more photographs.
And here is the video of the action!

Auckland (New Zealand)
In recognition of the first World Day for the Abolition of Meat the Animal Liberation Aotearoa group took a handful of interested and concerned people to an Auckland pig farm and attempted to go to a broiler farm near by.
The pig farm they visited only had the fattening pens; these are where young piglets are kept until they are about five months old when they are sent to slaughter. The pens were dark and damp and every surface was covered in pig excrement; as were the piglets themselves. Naturally pigs are very clean and would have a dunging area separate to where they sleep, eat and play. In these pens this is impossible for the young pigs. You can read here the full report on this farm tour with some more photographs.
