Demonstration for the Abolition of Meat in Stuttgart (Friday May 27th 2011) Around ten activists of the Tierrechtsinitiative Region Stuttgart (TiRS for "Initiative for Animal Rights of the Region of Stuttgart") have protested on the Königsstrasse (King's street). With a big banner with the slogan " Meat: the biggest suffering - 56.000.000.000 murdered animals per year - Abolition now!" we have shown the passersby how many Animals have to lose their life for meat consumption. At the information stall we offered the people the possibility to catch on the topic "meat". This action took place as a part of the Action Week for the abolition of Meat. " We should no longer ignore that for a piece of meat in our plate a sentient living being has to be killed. After repeated scandals like Dioxin and spoiled meat in Germany which makes "enjoying meat" always more questionable for the eater, people should particularly be aware that the eaten animals have to spend their lives in pain in animal fabrics," said Thomas, an TiRS-activist. In Germany alone approximately 500 million pigs, cows, chickens and turkeys are being tortured and killed. The Worldwide total is 56 billion animals (only land animals, water animals another 400 billion (!) ). Most animals have to spend their lives in tiny, dark cages, without having the possibility to move properly. After a distressful transportation to the slaugtherhouse, they are killed -- some of them even without anaesthesia.
